Introduce us to the group: when and how the group was formed, why the choice of the name IRON FATE, who are the musicians who are part of it?

The group was found in 2004 by guitarist Harms and his brother Sascha. Back in these days, it wasn’t popular to play traditional Heavy Metal, as modern or extreme styles have been more popular, instead. So, I suppose, the name «Iron Fate » was meant in the sense of a faithful vow. After the line-up changed over the past years we finally completed it again with our bassist Sven, drummer Kai, and guitarist Oliver. Harms and I are the remainder of the founding line-up.

Speaking of musicians, do you have activities other than music and which ones?

As the most of us are family men, all of us have regular jobs on a daily basis. While I am working as varnisher and Sven as a stockman in the automotive business, the other three guys are professionally into IT as software developers in different core businesses.

For those who don't know you yet, can you best describe your style and tell us your main influences?

All of us have different musical interests but there’s an overlap in the late 80’s and early 90’s US-Metal such as Crimson Glory, old Fates Warning and Queensrÿche, or Vicious Rumors. But, as you might have noticed, other influences, such as Thrash Metal and Hard Rock shimmer through occasionally. Besides all that, I dig 80’s AOR such as Journey or Toto a lot, whereas, for instance, our Drummer Kai is also into Progressive, Funk and Fusion, or even Extreme Metal.

11 years have passed between your first album “Cast In Iron” and the second “Crimson Messiah”. Can you explain to us what happened all this time?

Virtually, everything happened during that period. The Line-up changed massively towards the current setting. We welcomed offspring, went through diseases, fought musical identity crises, and wrote and recorded the material on “Crimson Messiah” meanwhile. Not to forget the Covid pandemic, which hindered almost anything cultural. Many ups and downs, which eventually made the band more mature and professional, I guess.

Since the group has existed, can you tell us any positive or negative anecdotes and/or situations that have had an impact on you?

I have to admit that there’s nothing sensational to report as you presumably would like to hear. No scandals, no gossip, as we all are down-to-earth and well-behaved fellows, sorry! The highest impact so far had our appearances at the KIT Rising 2 in 2022 and the Rock Hard Festival in 2023, both of which also have been our biggest shows so far and helped us a lot to gain attention.

Tell us how you came to open for Tygers of Pan Tang on January 28 in Goleniów, Poland?

This was pure serendipity. Originally the Dutch metal legend Picture should have opened that show. As they canceled their live dates around that time, we have been contacted by the very nice fellows from Rock Hard Ride Free Metal Club in Goleniów, if we are interested as a replacement for that particular show. So we didn’t need to think twice about and agreed thankfully. A big “thank you” again to Pawel and the club, the audience and moreover, to the legendary Tygers for that amazing chance and unforgettable evening.

After your concert on January 28 in Poland, you only played in festivals. can you explain to us why?

This was rather coincidence. There was no deliberate plan to play only festivals. It happened that all requests for our performance have been shows labeled as festivals each of which gave us the opportunity the perform along with legendary acts such as, Michael Schenker Group, Nestor, and Praying Mantis. 2023 was really great show-wise.

Tell us how you got the opportunity to come and play Rising fest X in 2023?

Pretty much simple: Nathalie from the Rising Fest crew asked us to perform and negotiated a second show at the legendary British Steel Night in Fismes (Salut Sylvain!). So we had no choice other than say ‘yes’. It was an awesome weekend in France with so much dedication and beautiful impressions.

Among the groups that played on the same bill as you at RISING FEST X, which one(s) did you like? Were you able to establish contact with the groups?

So many amazing acts have been around on both evenings. Most prominently, we connected to our new friends from Vancouver « Iron Kingdom » and soaked some gallons in the night between the shows with them. Awesome musicians and very professional and passionate artists. Hopefully, we can intensify our « iron relation » on stage next year. Cheers guys, up the Irons!

What are your plans for the coming months?

Most of all, we’d like to focus on working on our the successor of « Crimson Messiah ». As part-time musicians, it is not always easy to find the time and mood beside the regular jobs. So, hopefully, creativity and inspiration are with us to bring you some decent tunes in future. Moreover, we would like to thank you for this interview and the French crowd in Longvic and Fismes for their dedication. Merci Beaucoup ! Hopefully, we see each other again, soon!
